Appointment of Karen E. Schenck as acting District Manager/ Postmaster

The Chicago District of the U.S. Postal Service is pleased to announce the appointment of Karen E. Schenck as acting District Manager/ Postmaster, effective May 31. She succeeds Nancy Rettinhouse, who will return to her position as District Manager, Greater Michigan.

Schenck will oversee all customer service operations, including delivery, retail and administrative support departments. The district serves more than 1.3 million homes, businesses and Post Office Boxes in the City of Chicago and six surrounding suburbs, encompassing ZIP Codes 606-608. The district includes three mail processing plants, 49 delivery stations and carrier annexes, and 29 retail -only stations, with 7,600 employees. Schenck comes to Chicago from the Lakeland District, where she served as District Manager since 2010. Prior to Lakeland, Schenck was District Manager in the Southeast Michigan District for one year, and the Appalachian District for three years. Her other senior management positions include Manager, Customer Service Operations Support at Postal Service Headquarters, Manager, Delivery Programs Support for the former Mid-Atlantic Area, and Manager, Intelligent Mail Implementation, where she standardized and improved multiple uses for barcoding for the Postal Service and the mailing industry. Schenck began her Postal Service career as a part-time clerk/carrier in Hampton, VA in 1974. Schenck holds a bachelors degree in business management from Mary Baldwin College. She is a graduate of PDI and the Postal Services Advanced Leadership Program.
